Welcome to my website!
I’m a retired university professor with an MA in Linguistics and a PhD in Higher Education: International Comparative Education. I’m a real “word-lover” and have been fascinated with other languages, ways of expressing oneself (written and spoken), hieroglyphics, etymology, writing systems, linguistics… including the subsets of linguistics: forensic linguistics, sociolinguistics, markedness and code switching, and conversation analysis.
If you, too, like words, mysteries, suspense, puzzles and interesting people, glitzy and beautiful settings, and how to cope with family intrigues and international dilemmas… feel free to dive into the adventures of Peter Churchill. This is to whet your appetite as my publisher search is just about to begin. Fingers crossed!
Welcome again! I’m Nan: lover of words, linguistics, avid reader, and retired university professor. Blue-eyed blond, irrepressible optimist, 5th generation Texan who lives in Austin and Cuernavaca, Mexico. Love: Montblank Meisterstuck pens… fine-point black ink; Moleskine or Leuchtturm journals, freshly baked country loaf bread; freshly ground coffee; Star Gazer lilies, Daffodils, Hyacinths, Easter egg hunts, sunny days, butterflies, chocolate. Fan of: Theater, good, deliciously decadent dining, Mystery, Suspense, and Thrillers (way too many favorite authors to list), word puzzles, BBC, PBS, A&E. Libraries, hardcover books and Kindle (for, let’s be honest… any form of acquiring a book is great); Languages! French, Japanese, Latin, Spanish. Shakespeare. Mexican food, Japanese food, French food, Southern food… well, practically all food! ☺ My husband, Bruce, who listens to all my words, personal and literary, my cheerleading team of my kids and grandkids, my lifelong friends and newfound friends and… The Fatal Four! Beaches and ocean waves. Sticky Toffee Pudding, Banoffee Pie, sunsets at our ranch; horses, dogs and cats… especially Molly (our Havanese), front porches with rocking chairs, guacamole and totopos, deviled eggs, Koi in rock-lined ponds, fields with horses. London, Paris, Anglesey, Cape Cod, New Orleans. Trains, outdoor cafés, chatting, Pictionary, Boggle, Trivia, word puzzles of any kind. Popcorn and movies, Pilates, swimming pools, and ceiling fans. Linguistics! Cinnamon, almonds, vanilla, and cherry flavors. I have spacial synesthesia…thought everyone saw numbers, calendars, colors the way I do (didn’t realize they didn’t until I was age 40!). I love meeting new people, going to new places, life-long learning, and living life, every day, to the fullest!
